The Nevada Aviation Technical Advisory Committee (NATAC) was formed as a forum for discussing planning and programming issues related to the Nevada Airport & Heliport System Plan (NAHSP), providing recommendations for the administration of the Fund for Aviation, (formerly the Aviation Trust Fund), and to fulfill the public participation processes defined under Nevada's open meeting law as defined under Nevada Revised Statutes (NRS) Chapter 241 and the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) requirements in Advisory Circular 150/5050-3A.

The NATAC also provides review, comment, and makes recommendations on the statewide aviation planning process for the aviation transportation system required by state statute and the FAA National Plan of Integrated Airport Systems.

Airport Matching Grants Program

The Fund for Aviation was reestablished by the 2023 legislature through AB58 at $1,000,000 per year. The procedures for obtaining matching funds for airport matching grants are in accordance with NRS 494.048 and these funds must be used exclusively on federal projects at public-use airports within the state for the enlargement, improvement or maintenance of rural airports, landing areas or air navigation facilities.

Fund for Aviation Grant Program

Key Provisions of AB58 are as follows:

Section 1. 1. There is hereby appropriated from the State General Fund to the Fund for Aviation created by NRS 494.048 for the enlargement, improvement or maintenance of rural airports, landing areas or air navigation facilities in Nevada the following sums:

For the Fiscal Year 2023-2024 .................................. $1,000,000
For the Fiscal Year 2024-2025 .................................. $1,000,000

2. The money appropriated by subsection 1 must be used by rural airports to match money that is available from the Federal Aviation Administration.
Sec. 2. This act becomes effective on July 1, 2023.
