The Roadway Systems section of the Planning Division is a diverse section comprising of a variety of functions and responsibilities pertaining to the federal and state level.
Many of Roadway Systems responsibilities are derived from NDOT’s need to comply with federal laws. Among these include the development and maintenance of the state highway functional classification program. Providing HPMS (Highway Performance Monitoring System) data pertaining to the extent, performance and condition of the states roadways to the Federal Highway Administration.
At the State level, Roadway Systems is responsible for the maintenance of the road inventory, administration of the milepost program and the collection of roadway images.
