Statewide Transportation Improvement Program (STIP)

STIP_Image

The Statewide Transportation Improvement Program (STIP) is the state’s transportation capital improvement program. Federally funded and regionally significant projects across the state are included in the STIP. The Nevada Department of Transportation (NDOT) STIP is a four-year plan and includes funding levels by year for project obligation and is fiscally constrained. The Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) and the Federal Transit Administration (FTA) approves the STIP. The STIP is prepared in cooperation with the state’s four Metropolitan Planning Organizations (MPO) and includes the projects identified in their respective Transportation Improvement Programs (TIP). Though the STIP is required to be updated a minimum of every four years, NDOT produces a STIP annually.

NDOT WORK PROGRAM

NDOT's Work Program lists transportation projects that NDOT intends to work on during the current fiscal year and a complete list of projects can be found here:

APPROVED WORK PROGRAM ACTIONS

The Work Program satisfies Nevada Revised Statute (NRS) 408. 280 requiring the Director of NDOT to submit a three year list of projects to Governor/Board by Oct 1st.  Also, the program satisfies NRS 408.203 requiring NDOT submits a 10-year list of transportation projects to the State Legislative Council Bureau (LCB) every even year, and the State Legislature every odd year.

Projects in the Work Program are sorted by county with each of the 17 counties represented with its own section and a section for the Tahoe MPO (TMPO).

The Work Program is composed of three elements:

  • The Work Program (WP) lists the current fiscal year projects to include the betterment and rehabilitation projects completed by state forces and district contracts.
  • The Short Range Element (SRE) lists projects state and local entities would like to initiate within the next 2 to 4 years.
  • The Long Range Element (LRE) lists projects in the planning stage or extensions of current projects to be completed 5 years and beyond.
