PROJECT INFORMATION
The project will resurface both directions of I-80 between McCarran Boulevard and Keystone Avenue in west Reno.
The aging roadway surface will be removed and repaved on more than one mile of interstate.
- An auxiliary merge lane will also be added on eastbound I-80 between western McCarran Boulevard and Keystone Avenue, providing additional merge opportunities for enhanced traffic safety and mobility.
- Approximately 8,000 linear feet of decorative sound wall will be added in certain areas to help reduce traffic sound impacts for surrounding neighborhoods. Sound walls will feature water and fish imagery, reflecting the Truckee River.
- Select interstate bridges will also be resurfaced and improved, and the westbound I-80 bridge over Stoker Avenue will be widened.
- Roadside drainage, signage, lighting and wrong-way driver detection systems will be enhanced.
- Interstate bridges will also be painted and enhanced with sculptures and landscaping celebrating the flora and fauna of the Truckee Meadows:

-
Approximately 246 existing roadside trees will be removed and replaced to make way for the interstate widening and sound walls and drainage, as well as to provide more resilient vegetation. Existing healthy trees will be replanted on nearby areas of the roadside. Other existing trees determined by an arborist to not be thriving will be replaced with more than 400 hearty trees adapted to the northern Nevada climate, ultimately increasing the number of resilient trees and vegetation on the roadside. Irrigation and detention basins will also be replaced and improved.
Landscape and aesthetics are used to enhance and define roadway corridors, reflect the heritage and culture of communities and further an area’s tourism and economic development potential.
