Rural Agency Consultation to Enhance Nevada Transportation
The Nevada Department of Transportation (NDOT) is committed to a robust and collaborative rural agency consultation process. NDOT regularly works with rural counties and local agencies across the state in the development of its transportation plans and programs, including the One Nevada process and Statewide Transportation Improvement Program (STIP). NDOT District Offices also serve local communities though roadway maintenance, transportation operations, and pavement preservation on both Nevada and United States highways. NDOT engages in a continuous coordination process that helps the agency ensure that statewide needs are being met, and that local representatives have opportunities to participate in the planning process.
Rural Agency Consultation Process
NDOT’s rural agency consultation process reflects a continuous cycle of collaboration and includes workshops designed for local agency and NDOT staff, as well as leadership meetings that include elected officials and the NDOT Director. In addition, the NDOT Rural Liaison, District Offices, and other NDOT Divisions collaborate with local leaders on a routine basis throughout the year. The graphic above illustrates this process.
Resources
The online dashboard is a resource available to highlight NDOT transportation activities and other relevant information about each county. It also includes a simple form that can be used by local agency staff or elected officials to submit transportation questions or requests directly to NDOT.
NDOT works to build authentic, collaborative partnerships with rural local governments based on the “Four R’s”: relationship, respect, responsibility, and reciprocity. The NDOT Rural Liaison is available to support local governments though coordination on transportation topics.
