Current Status

Nevada Department of Transportation (NDOT), in cooperation with the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA), are pleased to present the final I-11 Las Vegas Metropolitan Area Planning and Environmental Linkages (PEL) Study Report. _I-11 PEL_Logo_no background

The final PEL report analyzes two potential routes for Interstate 11 (I-11), western (I-215 and CC 215) and central (I-515 and US 95) and identifies a recommended corridor through the Las Vegas metropolitan area, between the Henderson Interchange and the vicinity of Kyle Canyon Road (SR 157) on US 95.

The final PEL report recommends the central corridor (currently I-515 and US 95) for future I-11 interstate highway designation through the Las Vegas metropolitan area. Based on evaluation criteria and extensive assessments, the central corridor alternative was identified as the best performing corridor in the study.

You are invited to read the final I-11 PEL report, including the study team’s findings and recommendations on our resources page.

Copies of fact sheets or other public meeting materials are also located on our documents page. Please contact Cassie Mlynarek, NDOT Public Involvement Specialist, at (702) 232-5288 if you would like to request special accommodations to view materials in an alternative format.

Purpose and Need

The I-11 corridor through the Las Vegas metropolitan area has numerous benefits including consistent signage, enhanced wayfinding, improved connectivity and goods movement via a multimodal passage, thus improving mobility and supporting economic vitality.

Study Area

A western and central corridor alternative were analyzed for the future I-11 through the Las Vegas metropolitan area. The final PEL Study identified the central corridor as I-11 between the Henderson Interchange and the vicinity of Kyle Canyon Road (SR 157) on US 95.General Study Area map_FINAL

The I-11 Las Vegas Metropolitan Area Planning and Environmental Linkages (PEL) Study began in 2019. An Alternatives Development Report (ADR), completed in June 2021, concluded that a western and a central corridor alternative for I-11 were to be advanced for further study. An analysis of the corridor alternatives is presented in the final PEL study report is now available for the public to read and is located on the documents page.

Western Corridor Alternatives

Option 1: Centennial Bowl Option; Follows existing I-215, CC 215, and US 95 and proposes no major infrastructure changes

Option 2: Approximately five miles of new freeway on a new alignment will be required built to AASHTO standards. Any freeway alignment in this area will require the preparation of an Environmental Impact Statement or Environmental Assessment prior to construction.

Central Corridor Alternative: Follows existing I-515 and US 95 and proposes no major infrastructure changes.

Background and History

I-11 is envisioned as a major north-south multimodal corridor that will provide enhanced transportation mobility and goods movement while creating a foundation for robust economic vitality for the region. The process began in 2012, when the U.S. Congress identified US 93 from Phoenix, Arizona to Las Vegas, Nevada as a high priority corridor as part of the Moving Ahead for Progress Act (MAP-21) and designated it as the future I-11 corridor.

Project Schedule

The final I-11 PEL Study report is now available and can be viewed on the documents page. Next steps include formal interstate designation by AASHTO and the design and construction of updates to signage along I-515 and US 95 to reflect the change, subject to the availability of funding.

The final PEL study report was published in August 2022 and identifies the recommended corridor alternative for I-11 designation within the Las Vegas metropolitan area. The report identifies the central corridor (I-515 and US 95) as the recommended corridor for I-11. Future interstate designation of I-11 would involve construction of signage and changes to navigation tools such as mobile applications (ex. Waze, Apple Maps, Google Maps, etc.).1_NDOT I-11_PEL_Timeline_May2021-Fall2022_8.18.22
