Statewide Needs Assessment

NDOT is working to develop a data-driven process to identify transportation needs that are not already being addressed. Typically, transportation needs are identified in a variety of ways:

  • Existing plans and studies
  • Requests from local and regional governments
  • Requests from members of the public
  • Analysis of safety, traffic operations, road and bridge condition, and other data

The statewide needs assessment uses data aligned with each of the six One Nevada goal areas to identify needs that may not have been previously studied, and proactively recommends actions to advance these needs into projects.

Needs Validation

In addition, the statewide needs assessment data will be used to review newly identified needs. New requests may come from local feedback, county consultation and other public outreach events, or by contacting NDOT's Customer Service Office. This stakeholder input allows NDOT staff the opportunity to review proposed needs with planning and engineering input as well as a data-driven justification, and then advance them appropriately throughout the Department, proving that we are listening to our constituents.
