Background

A Safety Management Plan (SMP) is a transportation analysis effort that focuses on traffic safety for all road users incorporating corridor studies, access management, crash analysis, roadway engineering and applications of the Highway Safety Manual methods to reduce roadway crashes. A key component of the study is community outreach; we want to hear from those that travel the corridor. Ultimately, the SMP is a proactive tool to achieve the goals of the Nevada Strategic Highway Safety Plan and the vision of Zero Fatalities https://zerofatalitiesnv.com/ on Nevada's roads.

Corridor Crash History

From 2015 and 2019, a total of 439 crashes occurred along this portion of East Carey Avenue, including 4 fatal crashes and 17 serious injury crashes. There was a total of 11 pedestrian, 7 bicycle, 13 motorcycle, and 7 bus related crashes. You can use the interactive map to zoom to specific crash locations along the project corridor to view the crash data. Detailed information for each crash event can be viewed by selecting the individual crash point on the map.

Proposed Alternatives

Proposed corridor improvements include buffered bike lanes (standard bike lane with designated space to separate bike lane from vehicle traffic), widened sidewalks, pedestrian crossings with flashers, and traffic calming measures. The interactive map below shows the proposed alternatives for segments along the corridor. Click on the map and scroll through to see each segment and individual spot improvement alternatives.
