Research Program

The Research Program identifies and assists with the development of new technical knowledge, along with its implementation into common practice. Research needs are identified in the following manner:

• Department personnel submit problem statements explaining their unique research needs to the Research Section
• Academic researchers and service providers submit proposals to conduct research in response to the problem statements
• Department personnel screen and evaluate the proposals to ensure consistency with research goals
• Selected projects are submitted to the Department's Director's Office for initial approval, and to the Federal Highway Administration for final approval
• Academic researchers and service providers perform research with oversight and involvement from one or several Department personnel
• Academic researchers and service providers submit final reports to the Department explaining and detailing the scope of the project, the project's outcomes, and the recommendations to the Department

Product Evaluation

Product Evaluation maintains the qualified product list (QPL), and coordinates the evaluation of products that may be used by the Department and its contractors.

Library

By cataloging and sharing print and electronic reference materials, coordinating loans of materials from other libraries, and assisting in the search for specific transportation-related information, the Library serves as a unique resource for NDOT staff, other government agencies and the public.

LTAP

The Research Section, in conjunction with the Nevada System of Higher Education, administers the Local Technical Assistance Program (LTAP), which provides valuable transportation-related technical training.
