Project Neon Phase 2
Project Overview
Project Neon Phase 2 is the second, and final, phase of Project NEON. The focus of this project is to complete an I-15 northbound collector-distributor (CD) road to access US 95 northbound with access to MLK Boulevard and Alta Drive/Bonneville Avenue. The project also includes reconstruction of the I-15/Sahara interchange and improvements to I-15 southbound between Sahara Avenue and Spring Mountain Road.
This project will alleviate congestion on I-15 northbound from Sahara Avenue to the I-15/US 95 “Spaghetti Bowl” and improve I-15 movements critical to local, regional, and national economies.
Project Area
The project is located on I-15 between Sahara Avenue and the I-15/US 95 “Spaghetti Bowl” interchange.
Project Elements
Project NEON Phase 2 includes the following elements:
- I-15 northbound collector-distributor (CD) road to access US 95 northbound with access to MLK Boulevard and Alta Drive/Bonneville Avenue. The CD road will be braided with the Sahara Avenue on-ramp to I-15 northbound and the I-15 northbound off-ramp to Charleston Boulevard.
- Reconstruction of the I-15/Sahara Avenue Interchange.
- I-15 southbound lane improvements between Sahara Avenue and Spring Mountain Road.
Project Background
- Project NEON is the largest public works project in Nevada history. The design-build phase was completed in 2019. It widened 3.7 miles of Interstate 15 between Sahara Avenue and the Spaghetti Bowl interchange in downtown Las Vegas. It’s currently the busiest stretch of highway in Nevada with 300,000 vehicles daily, or one-tenth of the state population. Traffic through the corridor is expected to increase by 25 percent by 2050.
Schedule
The following schedule is preliminary and subject to change. For construction, the majority of the CD road improvements will be constructed without disruption to I-15 traffic.
